On Friday 22 July the CASME Science2Go, MAHLE Behr SA and East Coast Radio Breakfast Teams headed out in the early hours to Sithokozile Secondary School in KwaDabeka for a fun morning of Science and Engineering. The campaign is part of a drive by CASME and MAHLE to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. The visit to Sithokozile is the first of three East Coast Breakfast Show broadcasts with this one focusing in particular on increasing the participation of girls in these fields. An enthusiastic group of learners were at the school from 6am to join in the activities which included building radiators, launching rockets, UKZN's Dr T's famous Science Show and a special science themes Grand Challenge. Andile from Sithokozile aced the test and walked away with R2000. Learners at the school and listeners heard from scientists such as Dr Adriana Marais and Bathabile Mpofu who shared their passion for the subjects. Stay tuned for our next broadcast to learn more about subject choice and post-school study opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. |
