Mobile Science Assistant / Driver x 2

CASME is a well-established NGO working in the field of mathematics and science education development with a vision to change the lives of learners through quality and innovative mathematics and science education initiatives.
CASME’s mobile science lab programme is an innovative mobile resource centre project that provides training, support and resources for the implementation of curriculum aligned science practical lessons. Furthermore, the mobile science lab programme promotes science engagement and inspiration by staging events and campaigns aimed at teachers, learners and the public.
The lab assistant/driver, reporting to the Science2Go Project Manager and Facilitator is responsible for:
  • assisting in implementing mobile science lab activities (school-based support visits, exhibitions, roadshows etc) including setting up equipment, arranging venues
  • organising, storage, maintenance, cleaning and preparation of teaching and learning resource materials and equipment (including those used in chemistry practicals)
  • administrative support which includes maintaining a database of project participants, populating and updating project schedules, recording attendance, communication with participants by telephone and email to arrange and organise activities
  • driving the mobile science lab, ensuring it is maintained in working order and keeping records related to its usage.

CASME seeks to fill the positions, starting in January 2022, based in 1) Cape Town 2) Port Elizabeth

Essential Qualifications or Competencies:
  • National Senior Certificate or equivalent with Physical Sciences/Life Sciences and Mathematics
  • Drivers license with Public Drivers Permit
  • Computer Literate

Additional:
Administration qualification

Experience:
Working with schools and/or the non-profit sector

Knowledge / skills / attributes:
  • Enthusiasm and passion for education development
  • Ability to engage young people and inspire an interest in science
  • Flexibility, creativity and willingness to learn and participate in a dynamic, diverse team environment
  • Willingness to travel, sometimes extensive distances, to support the project’s rural outreach

A fully inclusive package, negotiable depending on qualifications and experience, is offered on a 1-year contract basis with the possibility of renewal.​

CASME: eLearning Specialist
Opportunity Closing Date: 10 September 2021

CASME is a non-profit education development and support organisation, working predominantly in rural and peri-urban schools, providing support to teachers and learners in mathematics, science and language. The centre is based in Pinetown, KwaZulu-Natal.  This opportunity is based at the centre. Some flexibility for remote working may be considered. As part of an evolving service offering CASME has established online learning platforms to support its work with teachers, learners and capacity building of staff. The eLearning Specialist will work closely with the Director and Academic Manager as well as the subject specialist team to design, support and deploy online courses and activities. In addition, the eLearning Specialist will contribute to sector capacity building and provide guidance in instructional design.

Skills, knowledge and attributes
You are passionate about online learning, optimistic and enthusiastic, innovative, and motivated.  You will work with a leadership team that supports the evolution of the CASME’s delivery model to digital or blended approaches. 
In particular you are a fast learner, have an agile and curious mindset, are willing to creatively problem solve. You can easily navigate digital environments, rapidly learn about new tools, applications and software. You are familiar with one or more learning management systems and third-party add-ons that enhance the online learning experience. You have sufficient knowledge of computer hardware, internet connectivity and Windows operating systems to trouble-shoot basic technical issues.
This is a hands-on role that will require you to be comfortable with some routine technical support but will provide many opportunities for strategic, organisation and system level input.
